About the Long Island UPA (LI UPA)
Over two years ago in March of 2017, The Long Island UPA started it’s first division of 8 Ball players then a year later it started it’s first 9 Ball division. By June of 2018 it sent three teams to compete in the Las Vegas National Championships. In that short period of time we have paid out more money per membership than any other league in our surrounding area.
The Long Island UPA (to be renamed Empire UPA in the future) plans to grow a league where amateur players can play in an equal and fair handicapped system. Whether you’re in for a night out, to compete and enjoy local and national tournaments for significant cash prizes, or just to benefit from the cash payout at the end of the session, we want everyone to have fun. In addition, for all the open players, our goal is to develop a part of the league that will provide the opportunities to compete at all levels locally and nationally for significant cash prizes. It is our goal to be the most fun, competitive, and rewarding league in Nassau, Suffolk, and the New York Metropolitan area (including Manhattan, Yonkers, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, & more).
Long Island UPA can create singles, doubles, or team Handicap Divisions in 8, 9, or 10 ball. These divisions will be able to play on 7ft or 9ft tables. We can also create a Masters Division in any of the three disciplines. For those who want to go home early each night we can set up divisions of three, four, or five matches a night. Our flexibility allows us to start with small divisions and grow them accordingly.
The United States Professional Poolplayers Association (UPA)
Formed by professional players themselves, The UPA brand represents the ideal in the sport of pocket billiards in the United States. It is positioned as the standard bearer for the evolution of the sport and has adopted the motto: “The Evolution of Pool.”
At the core of the UPA is the Systematic Speed Ratio (SSR). Designed by professional pool players, the SSR program is a revolutionary automated program. It monitors and adjusts each player objectively after calculating more than 36 aspects of a player’s performance. The SSR program provides accurate handicapped match play, monitors and studies player’s behavior in order to provide fair and challenging Speeds (Ratings). A benefit of the SSR is it is the “World Champion” who is always monitoring your game and meant to help bring out the best player you can be.
SSR Calculations are a combination of several metrics such as the ability to win matches and games, skill level of the mechanics of play, skill used to react to defensive strategy used against players, performance against other player Speeds, the use, execution and effectiveness of a planned strategy, breaks, runs and averages on many many levels. The SSR Program monitors and adjusts all players equally providing player with a regional, state, and national amateur ranking. The SSR Program is the most advanced rating program in the billiard industry and is the trusted system of the UPA.
